Promoting British Values
At our school, these values are highly prioritised and interwoven into every day life in a variety of ways. From PSHE lessons, to learning about other Faiths and then curriculum links that tie in with our BKCAT curriculum all help to deepen our pupils' understanding. We also know that messages delivered to our whole school community are particularly strong in shaping the culture of our school. That is why we begin every one of our Friday Celebration Assemblies with one of our carefully-planned themes that we hope will help our children to become well-rounded, assertive citizens of tomorrow's world. This is shown in our curriculum intent statement which says:
Our curriculum begins the moment children are welcomed into our school and is comprised of all the carefully crafted decisions we make that impact our learners. Our aim is to prepare our children for their futures, enabling them to use their God-given talents to achieve their full potential. Thus allowing them to live out our virtues and take advantage of every opportunity so that they are best-prepared for their life in an ever-changing world.
We instil self-belief, courage, ambition and respect in our pupils with our mission that we are:
Growing in God's Love
At our school we teach the following:
At St John's, we also live out the Leeds Catholic Diocese Virtues Programme. These Christian virtues which are explored and strengthened through weekly worship led by all staff include wisdom, compassion, kindness, honesty, service, respect...just to name a few. These virtues are deep rooted in the culture of our school and are part of our Catholic Identity. This work can be explored via the following link : https://www.virtuestoliveby.org/
